How to install the findCar OBD 4G

The findCar OBD 4G plugs into the car’s OBD port, with no tools or cables. Then you activate your plan on the website and add it in the app: it activates in 1 to 5 minutes.

Before you start

  • The findCar OBD 4G tracker.
  • The car: in Europe, most petrol cars from 2001 and diesel cars from 2004 have an OBD port; in the US, cars from 1996.
  • Your phone with the findCar app installed.
  • The IMEI: a 15-digit number starting with 86, with a barcode, on the tracker’s label and on the box label. Don’t confuse it with the label on the back of the box (FKSU… product code, it contains letters).

Step by step

  1. Find the OBD port

It’s usually under the steering wheel, on the driver’s side; sometimes behind a cover. If you can’t find it, check the car’s manual.

  2. Plug in the tracker

With the engine off, push it all the way in. Check that the lights blink: it means it’s getting power and is properly connected. If none blink, plug it in again firmly.

  3. Activate your plan

On Activate choose monthly, quarterly, annual or 2 years and pay. If it’s your first purchase, you’ll get an email to create your password (the link expires in 24 h).

  4. Log in to the app

With your email and password, or with Google (on iPhone also with Apple).

  5. Add the device

In the app, “Add device”: scan the IMEI barcode with the camera (15 digits, starts with 86; it’s on the tracker and on the box) or type it, and give it a name.

  6. Take the car outside

It activates in 1 to 5 minutes. The first GPS position usually arrives in under 5 minutes, although it sometimes takes up to 15–20. Meanwhile the app shows that it’s waiting for the GPS signal.

Also for the findCar OBD 2G: the steps are the same.

If it doesn’t work

It doesn’t show up after paying

Check that you’ve added it in the app (step 5). Paying and adding are two separate steps.

The app says the IMEI isn’t valid or the device disappears

Check that you used the IMEI (15 digits, starts with 86) and not the FKSU code on the label on the back of the box. If it persists, message us on WhatsApp.

It shows “disconnected” while the car is parked

That’s power-saving mode: when the vehicle is stopped it stops transmitting and reconnects when it moves.

The position is wrong or doesn’t move

The first position can take up to 15–20 minutes: leave the car outside, under open sky.

Continue with the app

Map, routes, geofences and alerts: we explain them in the app guide.
